Comfortable is not Always Good | ||
Generally, parents don’t think of the composition of things they are used to buying every day. For example, our family is living in the north of America and I try to wear warm flannel clothes – it is nice to touch, soft and warm me in the cold days. But I never knew that this fabric as flannel soaks all harmful substances from the air. It allows bad bacterium to spread very fast and penetrate into our organism – we are catching a cold or other disease not knowing the reason of it. On visiting a doctor, I decided to consult with him about this problem. My kids are going in for sport and drink cold water but they often catch flu – why? The doctor explained everything quite easy – flannel clothes prevent air immersion and let harmful bacteria grow quickly. She said that I should wash flannel things very often. I was very surprised by the explanation. I always thought that flannel (French – ‘flanelle’) was made of cotton or wool (rarely) with raising (pile) and never accumulate bacteria. Unfortunately, I have been mistaken. Many things are sewn from flannel – dresses, pants, pajamas for kids and adults, etc. That was the reason of our sickness. Since that day after seeing a doctor I try to wash flannel pants as often as I can to prevent bacteria reproducing. A few years later we became healthy and sound. Nevertheless I keep buying flannel pants and jackets for my boys. When we are traveling somewhere, I always take them along with us to feel home comfort and warmness. Yet, I have learned much about the fabric. We have to pay attention to our behavior first of all when we are sick and stop blaming manufacture and designers. Hygiene and order must be our priorities. That is true. |
